Military urban planning refers to a set of principles and practices for organising urban space around issues related to the organisation of armed forces. It is currently undergoing a transformation. The recent withdrawal of military sites from certain urban areas raises questions about their future in a context of high land pressure: redevelopment of former military sites, enhancement of remaining heritage and reshaping of urban centres. At the same time, growing security concerns are leading to a more diffuse remilitarisation of urban planning. The issue is no longer only spatial, through the location of military facilities, but also functional, through the spread of a military logic in urban space.
