Fifty years ago, in a small village in Castile, José, the grandfather of Daniel Olmos, killed Maria, his grandmother. While knowing the history, that of the Spanish Civil War, while knowing a thousand anecdotes about José, the story of this femicide committed during a dictatorship, Daniel had long ignored it.
With paper, a stapler, a roll of tape, crayons (lots!), and a sharpener, Daniel Olmos and Lisa Peyron break a familial and societal taboo. It is only when stories are told that labels come off, that the other becomes us, that we can understand and heal. Always leaving room for the salvific power of humor, VIVA! intelligently explores society’s ability to repair and transform itself.
