The question of justice and guilt is at the heart of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's comedy "Die Panne".
The story recounts Alfredo Traps, who must interrupt his journey due to a car breakdown. He finds shelter with a retired judge. Traps spends the evening with his host and his former, also retired, colleagues: a judge, a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, and an executioner. During dinner, which turns into a feast, the four old men explain to Traps that they reenact famous trials in their leisure time. Lacking a defendant for this evening, they encourage Traps to take on the role, which he gladly accepts. Convinced of his innocence, Traps is nevertheless increasingly ensnared by their twisted game. At the end of the feast, a death sentence is on the table.
