Die Panne - Theatre
Questions of justice and guilt are central themes in Friedrich Dürrenmatt's comedy "Die Panne." It tells the story of Alfredo Traps, who, after a car breakdown, must interrupt his journey. He finds shelter with a retired judge. Traps spends the evening with his host and the host's former colleagues: a judge, a prosecutor, a defense attorney, and an executioner. During an extended dinner, these old men tell Traps that they reenact famous trials for entertainment. Since they are missing a defendant that evening, they encourage Traps to take this role, which he gladly accepts. Initially convinced of his own innocence, Traps finds himself increasingly troubled by the old men's cunning game. At the end of the feast, a death sentence is pronounced.
