Die Panne - Theatre
Questions of justice and guilt are central themes in Friedrich Dürrenmatt's comedy "Die Panne". The story follows Alfredo Traps, who must interrupt his journey due to a car breakdown. He finds shelter with a retired judge, who hosts him along with other former colleagues: a judge, a prosecutor, a defense attorney, and an executioner. During a dinner that turns into a feast, the four elders explain to Traps that they like to reenact famous trials for fun. Lacking a defendant that evening, they encourage Traps to take on this role, which he gladly accepts. Convinced of his own innocence, Traps finds himself increasingly troubled by the elders' cruel game. At the end of the banquet, a verdict of death is placed before him.
