Vincent Solheid’s artistic experience is a journey, a mysterious writing, a moving adventure where gesture and speech explore the meaning of presence. He is at once a draftsman, painter, wanderer, filmmaker, altar boy, performer, diverter, strategist of movement, wandering actor, singer of the breaded host, cyclist, scenarist, and president of a carnival band. Above all, he is a visual artist who connects the tragic links between myths of departure and return.
His work establishes various processes that anchor a sense of lineage, the conditions for a memory he both conceals and reveals. Solheid sees himself as the witness of hidden melancholy, at the crossroads of all journeys. His rituals mark a return to the joy of risk, of practice, of shared creation, of the collective work, and of embracing uncertainty—the human risk over the finished product. His path is his work, and his quest for the clearing is the story of his life.
*Octobre* is a multimodal scenic object. The death of his brother, 10 years ago, opened a breach in his way of being in the world. Through this loss, he began to perceive differently the connections between the living and the dead, between memory, territory, and the paths linking them.
*Octobre* is an ode to bonding: links between the living, the dead, humans, non-humans, landscapes, the past and the future. It questions our relationships with mourning, beauty, collapse, and proposes an incarnate artistic response to contemporary loneliness.
*Octobre* grows through artistic research residencies. After Berlin, Stavelot, and soon Saint-Vith, the longest took place at neimënster. A short work-in-progress will be presented, the result of his research in this studio. Here, the audience is invited to a first sharing of this adventure that combines performance, painting, and writing.
