Course: Cinema-Debate: The Arrival of Youth
UniPop organizes, in collaboration with PassaParola, a film-debate around the movie "The Arrival of Youth." The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director, Mr. Fabio Bottani, and the producer, Ms. Maria Grazia Galati, who will be available to the public for a deeper exploration of the themes addressed.
This medium-length film will be shown in its original Luxembourgish and Italian version, with French subtitles. It retraces a century of the history of Italian immigration to Luxembourg through the saga of a transalpine family, starting with the arrival in 1909 of Mario, a miner, to today, where a descendant teaches Luxembourgish to "new immigrants." The film depicts five generations facing the significant realities of their times: wars, resistance, concentration camps, as well as life paths, passions, and successes. In the background also appears the Jeunesse d'Esch-sur-Alzette soccer team, a strong symbol of a community marked by its mining history.
Inspired by Remo Ceccarelli's book (So Many Italians Ago... in Luxembourg, 2019) and made within the framework of Esch2022 European Capital of Culture, the film alternates archives and fictional scenes. As director Fabio Bottani notes: "Make a historical movie to make it accessible, particularly for a young audience. Make known a story that too many people still do not know."
The evening is entirely free.
The film will be shown in its original version in Luxembourgish and Italian languages, with French subtitles at the beginning of the screening.
