Equality March

The Equality March is a demonstration of solidarity and a rejection of hate and ignorance. Since the beginning of the Pride movement, following the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, Pride marches have been a channel for the LGBTIQ community’s demands for acceptance and legal equality. Their origin is primarily political. Participants communicate the community's demands to the public through banners and signs. The March is also about the visibility of queer minorities in society: while being 'different' used to be taboo and expressing one's sexual or gender identity was even punishable, queer culture took place only in secret. The March puts faces to these stories and shares individual life experiences. The message: come and show who you really are! It is also an opportunity for allies, organizations, parties, and institutions to show their support for the queer community and promote its concerns in society.
