Let yourself be swept away by a concert celebrating the legacy and influence shared among the giants of classical music. On his way to Vienna to study under the great composers, the young Beethoven read a letter from his patron: “Receive from Haydn’s hands the spirit of Mozart.” Every musical legacy strikes a balance between transmission and renewal. Certain guiding figures are concealed within the works of their disciples, allowing their influence to shine through in the style or orchestration. This programme tells the story of the bonds of artistic lineage across the ages. While Mozart and Beethoven both received instruction from Haydn, Poulenc also seems to have drawn inspiration from him with his Sinfonietta, written in a decidedly Haydnian spirit. To open the OCL season, Mariano Chiacchiarini on the podium and Joseph Moog at the piano transcend the boundaries of time and celebrate this musical legacy.
