Afropean from the British tv presenter, writer, and photographer Johny Pitts, explores the many ways in which Europeans of African descent navigate their multiple allegiances and forge new identities. Readers are taken to places such as Cova da Moura, the Cape Verdean neighborhood on the outskirts of Lisbon with its own underground economy, and Rinkeby, a district of Stockholm where around 80 percent of residents have a migrant background. Johny Pitts also visits the former Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow and Clichy-sous-Bois in the suburbs of Paris. Part memoir and part travelogue, the book reads like a reimagined travel guide, challenging conventional narratives about Black identity in Europe and portraying the complexity of overlapping cultures and histories. The book is available in Luxembourg libraries, as well as in e-book and audiobook formats.
