CONFERENCE | CNCI x C2DH Digital Future for Industrial Heritage? How are digital technologies transforming the way we discover, preserve and pass on industrial heritage? On 20 November, the National Centre for Industrial Culture (CNCI) and the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) of the University of Luxembourg invite you to an international conference bringing together researchers, heritage specialists, institutions and digital culture stakeholders to explore the new perspectives offered by these technologies. The day will open with a keynote lecture by Marinos Ioannides, Director of the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at the Cyprus University of Technology, before continuing with three main themes: Collecting and using digital data on industrial heritage: how do digital technologies make it possible to retrace the traces of the past and deepen our knowledge of industrial sites? From citizen science projects using LiDAR data to artificial intelligence applications for analysing heritage collections, this first panel will present new methods of documentation and research. Visualising (industrial) heritage: from 3D modelling to virtual reconstructions, discover how digital technologies make it possible to document, recreate and explore heritage sites, including when they are fragile or difficult to access. Digital mediation of (industrial) heritage: how can industrial heritage, artistic creation and new technologies be brought into dialogue? Through projects combining digital arts, immersive experiences and the memory of places, this final panel will explore new ways of telling and sharing industrial history. A round table devoted to artificial intelligence and (industrial) heritage will also bring together specialists from research, cultural institutions and the European Commission. The programme will include concrete applications of AI in the heritage field, the opportunities it offers, as well as the questions of reliability, transparency and responsibility that it raises. Throughout the day, projects developed in Luxembourg and internationally will illustrate these reflections and foster exchanges between participants.
