Sumié is traditional Japanese painting made with Chinese ink. You will learn to play with the dilution of the ink to obtain shades of black. You will practice your skill by working on the strength and speed applied to the brush to achieve the desired thickness and sharpness of the lines. You will also learn how to use Sumié materials while improving your posture and concentration abilities. Materials: brushes, Japanese papers, ink, ink stone, paperweight, felt, draft paper. The instructor will introduce the materials in the first class; no purchase is necessary before the first session.
