Why do we sometimes make bad decisions?
Why do we sometimes make decisions that we later regret? Why can even intelligent people make poor decisions under pressure or in complex situations? This course offers an easy-to-understand introduction to the psychology of decision-making. Drawing on key insights from cognitive psychology, participants will learn about the most important factors that influence our everyday decisions: emotions, cognitive biases, mental shortcuts (heuristics), cognitive overload, thinking habits, and the influence of the respective context. The aim of the course is not to make perfect decisions, but to better understand our own thought processes, recognize common thinking traps, and make more informed decisions in everyday life. Using numerous examples from daily life, the course is aimed at anyone interested in how human thinking and behavior work.
