“Gone, but not forgotten: Saint-Victor Church in Metz, rue au Blé – an archaeological rediscovery” In 2025, a preventive archaeological excavation at the end of the rue au Blé cul-de-sac uncovered remains of the former Saint-Victor Church. Demolished in 1828 to allow completion of the current covered market, this church was among Metz’s oldest religious buildings and dated back at least to the second half of the 8th century. The presentation will cover the excavation’s main discoveries, the building’s different construction phases, the burials uncovered and the history of this Metz neighbourhood. By Christian Dreier from the Euro-Métropole de Metz Preventive Archaeology Service.
