In the front-line town of Mariinka in the Donbas region, young people try to make a living as war gradually transforms their lives. Two brothers find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict, while a third lives with an adoptive family in the United States. One young woman smuggles goods and personal belongings across the front line by bicycle, while another, an aspiring boxer, joins the fighting. Belgian filmmaker Pieter-Jan De Pue follows them for a decade, documenting how the conflict affects their relationships, choices and plans for the future. MARIINKA portrays a generation growing up amid war, before and after Russia’s full-scale invasion.
