- music
Founded in Frankfurt in the early 1980s, the Prosechós ensemble is considered Germany’s first Rebetiko group and is now among the most important representatives of this musical style in Europe. For more than four decades, Prosechós has been dedicated to preserving and passing on Rebetiko, the Greek urban music often referred to as “Greek blues,” which addresses themes such as nostalgia, exile, freedom and the joy of living. Led by singer and bouzouki player Yannis Karis, the group’s only remaining founding member, the ensemble combines the musical traditions of Piraeus and Smyrna with an authentic sound and an international lineup. Jannis Karis - bouzouki, vocals Thalia Karyda – vocals René Orfanidis – guitar, vocals Kyriakos Sfatkidis – bass Ahmed Hattach – percussion, vocals
