A family of field mice lives in a wall near a farm. The farmer has left, and the barn is empty. Autumn is coming, and the mice need to gather supplies for winter. Everyone works except Frederick. Instead of collecting fruit, corn, and nuts, Frederick dreams. He says he is working, too: he gathers colors, sunshine, music, and beautiful words for the long winter evenings. He becomes a true artist, able to bring joy and beauty from nothing.
