A family of field mice lives in a wall near a farm. The farmer has moved away and the barn is empty. Autumn is coming, and the mice must gather provisions for the winter. They all work together, except Frederick. Instead of collecting fruits, corn, nuts, and berries, Frederick sits and dreams. "Why aren’t you working?" ask the other mice. "But I am working!" says Frederick. He gathers colors, sunlight, music, and beautiful words for the long winter evenings. He becomes the one who can bring joy and beauty from nothing... He is a true artist!
