Igshaan Adams: Between Then and Now
- art
- exhibition
Igshaan Adams (1982, Cape Town) creates compositions whose layers blur the boundaries between textile art, sculpture, and performance. His interest in weaving stems from the woven baskets collected by his family during his childhood. His artistic practice is deeply shaped by an intimate and intuitive experience of textiles. Emerging from a collaborative process, Adams's work draws on memory, spirituality, and shared stories, transforming neglected materials and objects from daily life in Cape Town into reflections on identity, value, and belonging. The exhibition is conceived as a woven chronology of the artist's work, accompanied by fragments of history and echoes from his past. Adams grew up in Bonteheuwel, a township marked by apartheid, and his art is influenced by explorations of healing and transformation. The exhibition features textile samples that visitors can touch, iconic tapestries, "cloud" sculptures, and his danced prints, together forming a silent choreography.
Bon à savoir
Textile samples created by the artist are available to touch. Tapestries, "cloud" sculptures and dance prints are presented for the first time in an immersive environmental format.
