How do I feel about animals?
How do animals feel about me?

The National Museum of Natural History is pleased to announce the opening of its new temporary exhibition entitled “animalECH”! This exhibition offers you the opportunity to critically examine your personal relationship with non-human animals.

How do you react to the non-human animals that live around you? Do the spiders you encounter in your basement make you cringe, or are you filled with admiration for their ability to weave complex webs? Are you fascinated or disgusted when you see a pigeon flying down the street? Are you delighted by the return of wolves to our region, or do you prefer to keep the image of them as large carnivores, as described in tales and legends? Do you see a kitten a few weeks old as an adorable little creature or a future serial killer of biodiversity? Do the stuffed animals on display in a natural history museum do justice to the true nature of the animals represented, or do museums have a duty to consider other options for representation?

There is no universal answer to these questions. Whether we are environmentalists, animal rights activists, zoologists, museum curators, or simply animal lovers, we all think and act differently. The animalECH exhibition invites you to explore your own representations, question your feelings, and examine them with a critical eye.
