An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely vanished since the Treaty of London of 1867, once defended Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. Engineer Vauban, who oversaw the siege work in 1684, was assigned to develop a project to strengthen the fortress. The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications.
