Art Nouveau and Luxembourg. A new momentum in the artistic scene
A closer look at the applied arts objects created in Luxembourg around 1900 reveals that the artistic milieu was open to Art Nouveau and endeavored, at least in part, to develop its own national artistic style. The artistic scene nonetheless oscillated between a sense of tradition, aiming to anchor the Grand Duchy and its artistic creation in historical continuity, and the adoption of new forms of expression such as Art Nouveau, in order to respond to the spirit of the times and to a modern society. Curator Ulrike Degen puts into words what the exhibited pieces tell us.
