Since the 19th century, Luxembourg has attracted travelers with its varied landscapes and rich history. Initially discovered by neighboring regions, the area opened up to tourism, and the city of Luxembourg quickly emerged as the political, economic, and cultural heart of the country. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the old city has long attracted visitors, while tourism diversified throughout the 20th century (urban stays, business tourism, congresses). The Photothèque de la Ville de Luxembourg traces these developments, from the beginnings of travel to today's digital age (postcards, selfies, souvenirs, etc.). For the first time, a selection of photographs by Luxembourg photographers traveling abroad enriches the story, with images taken in Europe, North Africa, and overseas. In July and August, part of the exhibition will be displayed on the pedestrian walkway connecting place de la Gare to the Bonnevoie district, highlighting the theme of travel, arrivals, and departures.
