Sumi-e course (Japanese ink painting)

Sumié is traditional Japanese painting done with India ink. You will learn to play with the dilution of the ink to achieve shades of black. You will practice your skill by working on the force and speed applied to the brush to achieve the desired thickness and clarity of lines. You will also learn to use Sumié materials while improving your posture and concentration abilities. Materials: brushes, Japanese paper, ink, ink stone, paperweight, felt, draft paper. The instructor will present the materials at the first class; no purchase is necessary before the first session.
