The Big Band of the Gabriel Pierné Regional Conservatory is conducted by Damien Prud'homme, saxophonist, composer and coordinator of the conservatory's jazz department. This ensemble of 20 students brings together trumpets, trombones, saxophones and a rhythm section. Since 2008, it has explored the repertoires of Miles Davis, Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Bob Mintzer, Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver and Django Reinhardt, as well as Latin music, Broadway jazz and musicals from the 1930s. The concert celebrates big band music and improvisation.
