As part of Luxembourg Art Week’s [sculpture trail], discover Fork (ROTM), 2026 by Gilles Pegel, a sculpture made up of two large stainless-steel helices and a bright pink BMX frame. The helices emerge from the ground before disappearing into it again, suggesting the visible part of a larger system. Their geometry draws on “helical perversion”, a phenomenon observed in certain climbing plants, and explores mutation, adaptation and changes of direction. Reinterpreted in an urban setting, the work combines sculpture and infrastructure. One of the helices passes directly through the BMX frame, which is integrated into the structure. Digitally modelled and made using CNC induction bending, the elements transform two functional languages into a single sculptural system. The title Fork refers to branching: continuity remains, but the direction changes.
