Join Research Associate Yurika Imaseki for a thematic tour of Kaihō: Japanese Women Artists after 1945 through the colour red. The exhibition highlights the often overlooked contributions of Japanese women artists to the global artistic landscape, from the post-war period to the early twenty-first century, featuring works by Shōko Maemoto, Takako Saito, Yoshiko Shimada and Atsuko Tanaka. The tour explores the associations of red, from the Japanese flag to abstraction, blood and the disruptive body, opening questions of nationalism, play and women’s bodily experience.
