Miss Julie - Theatre
A midsummer night on a Swedish estate, celebrations take place in the kitchen. Julie, the affluent daughter of the estate owner, develops an interest in her servant Jean. Julie and Jean flirt in the presence of the cook Kirstin, who expects to marry Jean one day, and end up together in his room. Julie yearns for an escape, while Jean dreams of social advancement. As dawn nears, the roles blur. This intoxicating night escalates into fierce disputes between men and women, different classes, and ways of life, hurtling toward an abyss. 'Miss Julie', a naturalistic drama from 1888 by August Strindberg, remains his most performed and radical piece to date. The TNL, Schauspiel Wuppertal, and director Stefan Maurer continue their fruitful collaboration that began with 'Stella'. Nora Koenig as Julie and Thomas Braus as Jean present a captivating performance.
