The engraver Paul Rey, based in Tarn, is exhibiting this summer at Dahu à cinq pattes in Metz. A self-taught artist, Paul Rey develops a direct and straightforward linocut practice in his Lavaur workshop, marked by humor, freedom, and a fondness for quirky imagery. The exhibition brings together linocuts and tetrapak prints, a technique that uses recycled food packaging as printing plates. Animals, daily life scenes, or popular figures become, under his carving tools, funny, sensitive, and sometimes sharp images. After drawing, painting, and ceramics, engraving allowed him to return to an essential form. Bold lines, a synthetic approach, raw charm, strong colors, and subtle irony make up a unique universe, blending popular culture, joyful absurdity, and real artisanal know-how.
