In 2025, a preventive archaeological excavation revealed remains of the former Saint-Victor Church, which was demolished in 1828 to enable the completion of today's covered market. Dating back at least to the second half of the 8th century, this church was one of Metz's oldest religious buildings. The research shed new light on the building's history and development through the discovery of several construction phases and various graves inside the church. This presentation will cover the main findings and how they illuminate the history of the district.
