Self-taught Luxembourgish documentary photographer Christian Kieffer has been developing a profoundly humanist body of work for many years, inspired by his travels and encounters, particularly in Latin America. Through portraiture and black and white photography, he strives to reveal the dignity, strength, and individuality of his subjects. His approach is based on listening, patience, and trust. Far from staged images, his photographs are the result of genuine encounters between photographer and subject. Each face thus becomes the bearer of a story, a memory, and an identity. With a visual language both direct, sensitive, and timeless, Christian Kieffer encourages viewers to go beyond mere observation and to engage in a silent dialogue with those depicted. This series takes us to meet the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. Through intense black and white portraits, the photographer pays tribute to men and women deeply attached to their land, their culture, and their ancestral traditions. The photographs focus on faces, expressions, and traces of time, making visible a human presence in all its strength and dignity. Presented in the former monk library of the Neumünster Abbey, beneath the frescoes of Abraham Gilson, these works create a dialogue between cultures, eras, and memories. The exhibition invites the public to slow down, to observe and to meet, beyond geographical distances, what connects all human beings.
