Walks in the wasteland: When the industrial past inspires the city of tomorrow
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the CNCI, in collaboration with those involved in the reconversion projects, invites the general public to discover industrial wastelands undergoing transformation through a series of guided tours.
These unique tours offer a cross-section of industrial heritage and future prospects, building a true bridge between the memory of the past and urban innovations. The goal: to show how this heritage actively contributes to shaping the sustainable city of tomorrow.
The City of Esch-sur-Alzette will also participate in the event by opening the new premises of its Department of Historical and Industrial Heritage to the public, following the visit to the new Rout Lëns district.
The aim of these visits is to define a shared itinerary and build a narrative for a future urban circuit dedicated to industrial heritage. Conceived as an extension of the "Allée de la culture industrielle" (Industrial Culture Alley), currently under development in Rout Lëns, this project aims to connect the emblematic sites of Belval, Metzeschmelz, and Rout Lëns around a shared narrative and a coherent route, as well as to open up perspectives towards other heritage sites in Luxembourg, such as "Neischmelz" in Dudelange.
