A blend of frivolity and gravity, Verdi’s music gained success upon its premiere in Rome in 1859. Director Gilbert Deflo maintains the American setting but shifts it to Lincoln's era, offering a confrontation between the worlds of reason and morality and those of intuition and beliefs.
The story:
The Governor of Boston prepares to host a masked ball, eagerly anticipating the presence of Amelia, who is married to his loyal secretary. A fortune teller predicts he will be assassinated by a friend's hand. Amelia also seeks the witch's help, hoping to be cured of her feelings for a man who is not her husband…
